His work sits in that space between social criticism, philosophy, and grassroots activism.  Mick is less interested in conventional party politics, preferring to focus on questioning the underlying systems people take for granted: education, media, governance, economics, and social conditioning.

The tone of his writing questions the controlled structures that influence   society and challenges individuals to make changes towards a fairer environment that allows all to find a place of comfort.

He places a strong emphasis on individual autonomy and community-level responsibility.

A few themes that recur in his work and interviews:

  • skepticism toward institutional authority

  • education as a tool for empowerment rather than standardisation
  • local community engagement
  • nonviolent social change

Smashing the Cage will appeal to all with an open or inquisitive mind and is aligned to the works of:

  • George Orwell
  • Aldous Huxley
  • Noam Chomsky
  • Jiddu Krishnamurti
